Homemade Deodorant

This week I am celebrating the conclusion of a 5 YEAR SEARCH for the right deodorant!  It may seem a bit funny, but for the last five years I have really been trying to find a product that works.

How do I know it’s been 5 years?

I know it has been 5 years because my quest to find a natural deodorant that works began the day my son was born.  As I was settling in with my newborn baby, my midwife walked into my bathroom, came out with my Lady Speed Stick and funnily said, “Who’s is this? You don’t use this do you?” Even though I knew there were chemicals in my antiperspirant that weren’t good for my body, I was still using it.

Who wants to smell badly, right?

So that day I decided to stop using antiperspirant and start looking for a product that worked for me but wasn’t so toxic.  I had been using antiperspirant for over 15 years.  Lady Speed Stick, Teen Spirit, Secret, Dove, Degree… I remember using them all throughout the years to keep me dry and smelling like roses, tahitian vanilla, or what ever the scent of the day was.

Bottom line: my body had not sweat in a normal way in a very long time.

I definitely went through a detox process that unfortunately involved me smelling really, really badly.  Combined with the hormones of just having a baby, the no deodorant was enough to make my husband stand at arms length.  We still laugh about it today!  If you’re like me, many of the over the counter, non toxic products just don’t seem to work.  Whether it’s the consistency or the scent or the cost I just haven’t found a product that is a good match for me.   Now 5 years later and a lot of testing and research, I finally found a deodorant recipe that I feel good about and can make in my own kitchen in under a minute!  I have tested this recipe on a variety of family members who all agree, it is fantastic.

Take it from a 6’4’’ lumber jack,  a 5’8’’ chef, my 2 tween girls, my Tough Mudder enthusiast husband, and me … we all agree that this deodorant works!
And that literally never happens…

Enjoy…

Unfortunately I haven’t had success making my own deodorants at home. Will definitely experiment with your recipe though!

If you’re ever look for a good brand, Lavilin is excellent. Reviewed very nicely online, and seems to work for the masses! You can order on their website: http://www.lavilin.com
